The 32mm mains water connection comes in from the bottom-left and exits to the new house at the the top-right. The black (actually black with a green stripe) pipe which also exits at the top right is the separate supply which might in future get switched to a rainwater harvester, supplying WCs, outside taps and the washing machine. The narrow blue pipe on the left is the temporary supply to the site cabins and the disconnected black pipe on the right was the connection to the old farmhouse. The temporary supply to the static caravan is fed from another tee off the 32mm main, buried out of shot on the bottom-left.<\/p>\n
(The\u00a0 main water pipe is only 15mm diameter at the meter, but that’s 600m away so the pipe is 32mm \/ 1.25″ to minimize the pressure loss over such a long distance. Severn Trent Water have a higher standing charge for a 22mm meter – and more again for a 32mm meter – but 15mm is adequate for a house and the pipe only reduces to 15mm for a short distance.)<\/p>\n
