{"id":868,"date":"2015-09-25T20:44:23","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T19:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshflattsfarm.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=868"},"modified":"2015-11-14T11:22:40","modified_gmt":"2015-11-14T11:22:40","slug":"creative-commons-attribution-sharealike-license-applied-to-this-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshflattsfarm.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=868","title":{"rendered":"Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License applied to this Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks\u00a0ago I spotted that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marshflattsfarm.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=578\" target=\"_blank\">my post on the installation of the Biorock sewage treatment plant<\/a> had been copied verbatim to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biorock.co.uk\/blogs\/2015\/03\/customer-experience-and-review-of-biorock-sewage-treatment-plant\" target=\"_blank\">Biorock UK website<\/a>. While I don&#8217;t have a particular problem\u00a0with that I would have liked to have been given some recognition for the text and the photos.<\/p>\n<p>Other text I&#8217;ve written for publication on the Internet has used the Creative Commons Licenses. There are a small range of these which let you control what people are allowed to do with the text, photographs, source code etc. you publish. My personal view is that I&#8217;m happy for people to copy my contributions as long as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They say who and where they copied them from.<\/li>\n<li>They make any modified versions they produce available using the same terms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These restrictions align with the <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-sa\/4.0\/\" target=\"_blank\">Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike<\/a> (CC BY-SA) license so you&#8217;ll see details of that added to the pages on this site.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, applying a license doesn&#8217;t actually force anyone to comply with it, but it does make it clear on what basis the work is being published and in principle it provides a basis for enforcing compliance with the terms of the license in court.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a handy plugin for WordPress which makes it really easy to add Creative Commons license details &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/creative-commons-configurator-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Creative Commons Configurator<\/a>. Kudos to\u00a0George Notaras for writing that plugin.<\/p>\n<p>2015-11-13 Update: The latest version of the Creative Commons Configurator plugin (1.8.14) now includes the license details in the Widget on the Main Page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks\u00a0ago I spotted that my post on the installation of the Biorock sewage treatment plant had been copied verbatim to the Biorock UK website.
