Week 18, Day 5

Week 18, Day 5:

  • Decent weather in the morning then a bit more cloudy and windy in the afternoon with light rain at the end of the day
  • Quite an eventful day – more deliveries (extra insulation for the roof), more scaffolding, more progress on installing the Structural Insulated Panels and the first significant case of “well that wasn’t meant to happen!”

For the first time it’s possible to see the finished shape on the eastern end, and the new fifth lift of scaffolding.

There isn’t actually meant to be a pile of broken roof panels on the ground. It seems the SIPS installation team thought they could install the remainder of the main roof by assembling it all on the ground and lifting it up as one section rather than two, but it broke up while being lifted into place. Fortunately nobody got hurt and none of the building got damaged but those panels need re-making, which will take a few days.
