Week 35, Day 2:
- A little bit less rain, but it’s still wet and muddy
- The concealed gutter in the south roof has proved problematic:
- By cutting away a significant portion of the timbers to form the gutter, the overhanging roof has been sagging, unevenly
- Some time ago we decided to add galvanized steel straps on the upper surface to restore the strength
- Those straps were installed today – but they will need some more attention in order to form the zinc roof covering over them
- The preparations for plastering are now mostly completed on the first floor as well as the second floor, so the building work has moved down to the ground floor
- There’s quite a bit of stud-work required, to cover over the protruding steelwork and pipes on the south wall and to form some built-in cupboards and alcoves
- In particular, it has always been the plan to have a concealed-but-accessible cupboard behind the door to the kitchen, holding the main electrical distribution boards (in addition to the sub-boards on the first and second floors), the underfloor heating manifolds etc.
- The first floor is now ready for plastering and has been cleared and swept for the first time in a while
