Week 9, Day 1

Week 9, Day 1:

  • A non-building day due to a forecast of heavy rain and high winds, both of which are bad for installing blockwork. No bricklayers on site and Steve and Mick concentrated on arranging more materials for the next phase of work and pricing up some options for the staircases. More about the staircases later, once the way forward becomes clearer.

Week 9, Day 1

I’ve concluded that the light levels at 4pm are no longer good enough for a clear photo so I’ll switch to posting 3pm daily photos until the light levels in the early evening start improving again.

Week 8, Day 5

Week 8, Day 5:

  • More progress on the cavity walls, both inner and outer, including the installation of the Damp-Proof-Courses.
  • There are strong winds (up to 50 mph) forecast for the weekend so some of the blockwork has been braced to help support it until the mortar cures.

The damp-proof-courses - the inner one will get joined to a membrane over the beam-and-block floor before the insulation goes over the floor

The "double damp" - two layers of damp-proof-course membrane, one immediately above the blue bricks and one just visible above the first block - which gives the option to bring the external ground level up to the top of the blue bricks to match the internal floor level

Lots of Ancon TeploTie cavity wall ties - such a large number used here because there is relatively little wall structure in this area
