Outbuildings: Week 6, Day 4

Outbuildings: Week 6, Day 4

Most of today was spent removing another 200-300mm of soil from the ‘courtyard’ between the house and the outbuildings, since that will later be landscaped with paving and planting beds – and will end up around 150mm lower than the internal floor slabs.

It’s now clear that it won’t be practical to redistribute all the excavated soil on-site so some of that will start being removed off-site, starting next week.

After some uncertainty about the weather (which was windy but much less wet than had been forecast a few days previously) the installation of the concrete floor slabs went ahead as planned.

The concrete pump was all set-up and ready by 07:00 then four lorry-loads of concrete were delivered and laid between 08:30 and 11:30.

The specification called for a power-floated finish so a team from UK Concrete Flooring Specialists Ltd were kept busy finishing the surface until sunset.
