Outbuildings: Week 27, Day 5

Quite a busy day, with deliveries of 15 of the lighting fixtures and – notably – of the main set of doors and windows. These were custom made in Latvia (by Arbo Windows) and arrived in one large crate, weighing more than 700kg.

The windows and doors being off-loaded (just the one boxed-in pallet; the other items on the lorry were destined for different customers)

There were also deliveries of the first layer of fibreglass insulation for the ‘loft’ and the plasterboard that will be installed on the ceilings of the Workshop and Utility Room (only).

The weather has turned showery again, but in between the showers the build team made good progress with the first of two decorative ‘buttresses’ that are reproducing a feature from the original barn (likely retrofitted to the original barn when the original walls started to move on their very limited foundations).

The scaffolders returned this morning to remove the boards and poles dismantled by the builders yesterday, so now the inside of the Courtyard is free of scaffolding, ready for the installation of the windows and doors in the coming days. (The scaffolding is being retained around the ‘outside’ of the building, to preserve access to fit the ridge tiles – for which the dry-fix ridge tile retaining product choice was finally confirmed mid-afternoon).

More of the rainwater downpipes were installed – as well as the blue engineering bricks (below DPC) for the external staircase and buttresses.

The electrical installation team were also back on-site for the first time in a few days, to continue work in the Garages.
