Week 8, Day 4

Week 8, Day 4:

  • The main team of bricklayers started today and they’ve been working on the cavity walls above the floor slab.
  • This included installing the layer of Marmox Thermoblock for the inner skin of the cavity wall. These are made from rigid plastic cylinders enclosed in a foam matrix and help to prevent heat conducting down into the foundations from the inner skin of blockwork. It would be unusual to see these on anything other than a Passivhaus. Further details below.

Free Download – How to Build a Passivhaus: Rules of Thumb

Those nice people at the (UK) Passivhaus Trust have prepared a short “Rules of Thumb” book covering various aspects of Passivhaus design and construction. This is available for free download from the Passivhaus Trust website, split into two PDF files.

Kym Mead, who is doing the Passivhaus certification for Marsh Flatts Farm wrote a couple of the chapters (Whole-building systems; Certification and quality assurance) and other chapters were written by building services experts who often present at the AECB conferences (Alan Clarke, Nick Grant and Paul Jennings).

I’ve also copied the two PDF files into the Media library for this blog:
