Outbuildings: Week 13, Day 5

The brickwork and blockwork is now mostly up to ‘wall plate’ level around the courtyard, so the more detailed elements of brickwork are being worked on – along with the extra metre or so of brickwork on the Garage (to the left of the overview photo).

The steel beams for the wider (Garage) door openings were delivered but the engineering brick ‘padstone’ supports for those need installing before the beams can go in.

The automated posting of this update failed because of a subtle ‘improvement’ to the House’s computer network (in preparation for extending that to the Outbuildings). The Raspberry Pi that sends the photo to the server hosting this WordPress site now has access to IPv6 (as well as IPv4). IPv6 is used in preference to IPv4 when it is available – but the firewall was blocking SSH access to Internet servers from that network. I’ve applied a fix but that depends on whether the IPv6 address of the Raspberry Pi changes or not… All the hourly photos are still saved locally so if there’s an issue it’s just a question of manually uploading the right one.

Rain first thing but then it cleared up and stayed dry for the rest of the day. More bricklayers on-site today. Moving on to some of the fiddly bits where the brickwork ‘corbels’ out at the eaves, producing a traditional (Derbyshire?) detail where there are no soffits or fascias and the guttering is mounted on steel rise-and-fall brackets.

Another delivery of concrete blocks.
