Outbuildings: Week 28, Day 1

Outbuildings: Week 28, Day 1

A very windy day all across the country, with gusts up to 50mph in Derby, which ruled out high-level work. There was a fair bit of rain over the weekend, leaving large puddles in the Courtyard (bearing in mind the downpipes are currently just dumping water onto the ground),

Good progress with installing the doors and windows in the Workshop and Utility Room. All 5 of the 910mm-square windows were fitted together with 2 of the 3 doors. That just leaves the first-floor door (at the top of the external staircase) and the bi-fold door between the Workshop and the Garage to be installed tomorrow. There’s a minor issue to be sorted out with the window sills.

Further progress with the electrical installation – mostly the lights in the Garages – and completion of the first of the buttresses (with a little work on the second buttress, before running out of ready-mixed mortar). Start of work on the plasterboard ceiling in the Utility Room.

Outbuildings: Week 27, Day 4

The scaffolders returned this morning to remove the boards and poles dismantled by the builders yesterday, so now the inside of the Courtyard is free of scaffolding, ready for the installation of the windows and doors in the coming days. (The scaffolding is being retained around the ‘outside’ of the building, to preserve access to fit the ridge tiles – for which the dry-fix ridge tile retaining product choice was finally confirmed mid-afternoon).

More of the rainwater downpipes were installed – as well as the blue engineering bricks (below DPC) for the external staircase and buttresses.

The electrical installation team were also back on-site for the first time in a few days, to continue work in the Garages.
