Week 23, Day 2

Week 23, Day 2:

  • A site meeting with ecoHaus Internorm who will start installing the windows and external doors next week. This clarified the installation approach and the requirements for access which will mean temporarily removing some of the scaffolding and highlighted that installing the big window on the top floor, weighing around 250 kilos, is going to be “interesting”
  • More work preparing the window and door openings, adjusting the heights whereas the previous focus has been on the widths

Week 23, Day 2

Week 23, Day 1

Week 23, Day 1:

  • Architects Site Meeting number 5
  • More progress trimming the window and door openings to the right size for the plywood boxes
    • I should probably explain that the need to do this trimming relates to the design for the plywood boxes changing over the course of the build, which was only finally resolved by some structural engineering calculations
    • The large and heavy sliding doors need very good support and will be supported on 25mm plywood that spans across the cavity, being supported by both the inner and outer blockwork
    • The windows are lighter and will be supported over the middle of the cavity by plywood boxes cantilevered off the inner blockwork only, not spanning across to the outer blockwork, so the outer blockwork will “wrap around” the windows on the sides and at the top (but not at the bottom since the windows need to drain from the bottom of the frames)
