Outbuildings: Week 27, Day 1

Outbuildings: Week 27, Day 1

The most visible progress today was the removal of scaffolding from the South- and West-facing elevations of the Garage block; the scaffolding around the rest of the courtyard will be removed in the coming days.

The West-facing elevation of the Garage block, with the scaffolding removed – awaiting the external staircase

The removal of the scaffolding clears the way for work to start on the external staircase up to the first-floor door into the ‘Hay Loft’ (for which the design has now mostly been confirmed) – hence the clearing of the debris over the foundation pad for that – and the stacks of blocks that will form the inner skin of the walls to support the staircase.

Other progress today included:

  • Installation of the foundation concrete for the decorative brickwork ‘buttress’ details on the North of the Garage block
  • Installation of the chipboard flooring inside the ‘Hay Loft’

Outbuildings: Week 26, Day 5

Better weather today, enabling the installation of the guttering to be completed. With the scaffolding still in place, the installation of the aluminium downpipes has been postponed – so there are temporary polythene sleeves acting as downpipes for now. The scaffolding around the inside of the Courtyard is due for removal on Monday (leaving the scaffolding around the back of the buildings in place to enable the ridge tiles to be installed – once the fixing and ventilation solution for those has been confirmed).

The electrical team were away on another job but the alarm installer returned to complete their first-fix – and a little more of the home automation and data cabling was installed.
