Week 29, Day 1:
- May Day Bank Holiday so none of the build team were on site, but I made some progress reviewing the lighting design and marking out for more of the light fittings
- I also settled on the core set of KNX control devices which will handle:
- Lighting control (via the DALI protocol), accepting inputs from push-buttons and PIR sensors as well as Smartphones and Tablets
- Automatic control of the 5 clerestory windows, which are fitted with electric actuators (via an 8-way switching actuator which leaves room for 3 blinds)
- Automatic control of the heating circuits
- A key benefit of the KNX protocol is that it’s a standard supported by multiple manufacturers – but that can make it hard to choose which particular devices to use. In the end I mostly opted for devices from MDT since their KNX-DALI interface seems particularly good (with a built-in web server to make commissioning the DALI aspects easier than doing everything via KNX) and since they offer better value for money than some of the more established brand names.
